Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are electronic devices designed to provide power to critical mission systems. An Online UPS (OUPS) provides continuous power to the load during power outage or glitches caused by power source switching.
The Freescale 56F8300 (56800E core) family of Digital Signal Controllers is well suited for UPS design, combining the DSP's calculation capability with an MCU's controller features on a single chip. These controllers offer many dedicated peripherals, including Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) units, Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC), timers, communication peripherals (SCI, SPI, CAN), on-board Flash and RAM.
