The MSBA8100ADS board supports application development for projects using the MSBA8100 Multi-Standard Baseband Accelerator device. The MSBA8100 device is an accelerator for Turbo and Viterbi decoding and Fast and Discrete Fourier transforms. It is designed to bolster the rapidly changing and expanding wireless markets, such as 3G-LTE, WiMAX and 3GPP-R6. The MSBA8100ADS is used with an integrated development environment (IDE). such as the Freescale CodeWarrior® for StarCore®-based DSP IDE, a personal computer, and the SmartDSP OS for MSC814x operating system (all provided separately).

The MSBA8100ADS includes the MSBA8100 accelerator connected to two 16-bit DDR2 memories and an MSC8144 quad-core DSP via a 4x RS1578 serial RapidIO switch, and connected to an MPC8560 Power® microprocessor via the PCI PTMC connection. The board also includes an AMC expansion connector to allow interface with another board using the 4x serial RapidIO interface or an ATCA chassis. In addition to the processors, the MSBA8100ADS board includes the supporting power, clock, and interconnect circuits and switches, jumpers, and LED indicators used to configure the board and monitor its operation. The ADS package also includes a CodeWarrior USB-TAP, a power supply, a set of interface cables, and an Allen wrench and hardware for board mounting.

The MSBA8100ADS board serves as a platform to develop software and hardware applications in the MSC8144 and MSBA8100 environment. Onboard resources and debugging capability allow developers to download and run code, set breakpoints, display memory and register contents, and connect proprietary hardware via the expansion connectors. The board provides a superior environment for developing 3G-LTE, WiMAX, and 3GPP-R6 applications and can demonstrate the capabilities of the MSBA8100 and MSC8144 devices.
