Accounting and Finance

Freescale's European Finance Team has operations in the East Kilbride facility and boasts a best in class team focused on providing quality and cost effective financial services. The Finance Organisation exists to better manage the business, provide financial consultancy and training and ensures compliance with legal, tax and internal requirements.

Human Resources

The UK Human Resources Department is located in East Kilbride and is comprised of HR generalists, and specialists in Rewards and Learning and Development. This HR team supports all UK and Ireland employees. The team of HR professionals work in partnership with managers and employees in the effective execution of activities including, Recruitment and Retention, Rewards Planning, Talent Development, Organisational Development, Employee Relations, Legal Compliance, Rewards and Performance Management.

Marketing

The Technical/Strategic Marketing team focuses on developing and implementing strategies aimed at increasing both the market share of our products and profitability of the organisation. The Marketing role offers a rare opportunity to be an integral part of a market leading team in a challenging and rewarding environment. This function is involved in developing business plans based on detailed market analysis, understanding complex applications at a system level and defining leading edge, next generation products for major European customers. The Marketing role will involve close interaction with the leading companies within the major European markets such as Automotive, Consumer, Communications, Networking and Industrial and offers the opportunity to define and execute on the key long-term strategies within these markets.

Supply Management

The Supply Management function plays an integral role in the supply chain process for both production and non-production procurement requirements throughout Freescale. Members of the UK Supply Management Team situated at our East Kilbride facility have the opportunity to work as part of the global commodity team ensuring focused vendor quality and cost management in support of our manufacturing and business organisations. There will be significant interface with many disciplines within Freescale including Corporate Supply Management, Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Marketing, Finance and Vendor Quality.

Site Services

The Site Services organisation is responsible for delivering a wide variety of support services to Freescale UK. The division is categorised into the following departments:

  • Environmental, Health and Safety services
  • Engineering Services
  • Facilities Projects and Installations
  • Facilities Management
  • Security services.

The overall mission of Site Services is to create a safe working environment for all employees and deliver the appropriate services required to facilitate a highly successful Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication area.

Quality

The Quality Assurance Organisation provides a range of processes to support Freescale's customers, market business groups and manufacturing facilities. The aim of the Quality Organisation in the East Kilbride facility is to support these groups by deploying a quality operating system with effective measures of quality which span, link and drive market and customer requirements with technology and product development and manufacturing processes.

These process efforts provide quality leadership in customer satisfaction, continuous improvement and New Product Introduction to enable Freescale's success in key markets and industries.

The team is also responsible for assessing projects to analyze potential risks and costs and makes related recommendations.

Information Technology

The mission of the Information Technology (IT) organisation is to increase Freescale's profitability and rate of growth through the effective and selective application of information technology to business processes. In the UK, the IT team situated at the East Kilbride facility provide a broad range of services. These include business and manufacturing applications development and support, data networks, data collection and analysis tools, information security and protection from external viruses. These services impact each Freescale employee directly and are vital in our ability to deliver products and services to our customers. A combination of Freescale employees and external partners dedicate their time to provide IT services allowing access to a global pool of IT specialists and the flexibility to support the changing needs of the business.

Service and Logistics

The Service and Logistics function has the charter to optimise the supply chain in order to provide a cost effective premium service to Freescale's customers on a global basis. The Organisation's vision is to be an energized team providing superior supply chain performance which is viewed as a key differentiator by our customers. The Service and Logistics Organisation has the responsibility to schedule, plan and deliver customer orders. In close partnership with the Business Groups and Sales organisations they are one of the customer facing teams from Freescale's supply chain.

Applications Engineering

The Applications Engineering community in the UK is part of a European team within either TSPG or NCSG and are focused on the development of hardware and software applications in addition to application solutions for processing and communications products for a family of Freescale devices. The applications engineering teams are an integral part of the customer support operation, working with customers to help them develop their end products with Freescale solutions. The applications engineering role involves working with leading telecommunications and automotive systems producers throughout Europe. This community is involved in designing and developing complex applications both at component and systems levels. The applications engineering function offers challenging roles with excellent opportunities to demonstrate and develop technical and many other professional skills.

Product Engineering

Freescale's UK Product Engineering community is at the forefront of technology, working to build and maintain strong relationships with the rest of the Freescale technical and production communities in Munich, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong and particularly our sister organisation in Austin, Texas USA. The Product Engineering function applies detailed device knowledge gained through performing device characterisation activities to effect yield improvements and cost reductions. This function also has responsibility for understanding designs to establish test capability hence guaranteeing fault and specification coverage in addition to the qualification of new devices to ensure reliability and quality level. Product engineering also provides support on technical queries, working with customers to understand product-specific issues.

Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering community in the UK is based at the East Kilbride facility working with Freescale business groups. The remit of these engineers is to architect, develop and build complete reference platforms, both hardware and software, that are representative of Freescale's customers end equipment.

Manufacturing

The Freescale East Kilbride Fab (FSL-EKB_Fab) is one of Freescale's 6-inch wafer manufacturing facilities. The factory produces power management, radio frequency and infrared products for the automotive market. The 82,000-square-foot facility has manufacturing capabilities to the 0.5-micron technology node and came online in 1986. In addition to the highly skilled employees working directly with manufacturing, there is also professionally qualified staff supporting this activity. This professional community includes:

  • Equipment and Process Engineering
  • Device Engineering
  • Business Planning

Equipment and Process Engineering

The Equipment and Process Engineering remit includes the provision of engineering solutions for manufacturing issues and supporting cross-functional teams to successfully attain team and departmental goals. In addition, this function drives continuous improvement initiatives for department and assigned toolset and processes. This community also works closely with the shift team to support manufacturing metrics and coordinate project work. The challenging nature of this function offers the opportunity to work as part of a team focused on continuous improvement, to develop skills by working on individual projects and strengthening analytical and fault finding skills within a dynamic semiconductor manufacturing environment.

Device Engineering

The Device Engineering function plays a pivotal role in achieving the timely delivery of quality product from the East Kilbride facility. Device Engineering offers the opportunity to work on the achievement of key goals in the areas of yield, reliability and new technology introductions. Device Engineers work in partnership with other engineering departments within the facility and other teams in the pursuit of die and process yield targets of the products manufactured within the East Kilbride site.

Business Planning

The Business Planning Department provides three key functions within the UK Manufacturing function:

  • Production and Capacity Planning
  • Cost and Information Delivery
  • Stores

The Production and Capacity Planning function is to provide effective production planning and inventory management within the manufacturing area in addition to providing current and forecasted capacity planning for the factory. The group works both externally and internally within the factory to ensure excellent customer service and on-time delivery utilizing key planning and inventory systems.

The Cost and Information Delivery function aims to set financial budgets for the factory and generate detailed reports and analysis in respect of the factory's performance. This group works closely with global cost teams as well as individual areas in the factory to identify and ensure execution to the cost strategy.

The Stores function is to provide a continuous supply of spare parts and consignment items to ensure there are no interruptions to production.
