Definitions


1. Environmental Products. Freescale Environmental Products incorporate environmentally preferred materials and design features, e.g., low toxicity, greater recycle-ability and low energy consumption and high temperature board attach capability. Freescale activities include RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive Compliance initiatives, and the Halogen-free initiatives. Future activities are expected to focus on energy efficiency per the proposed EuP (Energy using Products) Directive.

2. Freescale Lead (Pb) Free Compliant. According to the European Commission Decision of 18 Aug 2005 (2005/618/EC) amending the RoHS Directive, the maximum concentration value allowed within electrical and electronic equipment is 0.1% of lead (Pb) by weight.  Hence, Freescale products marked with a Lead (Pb) Free symbol will meet the following Freescale definition:  "Electrical and electronic assemblies and components in which the lead (Pb) level in any of the homogeneous materials and the end product is less than 0.1% by weight." Due to certain exemptions in the Directive, some products may be RoHS compliant, but will not receive the Freescale Lead (Pb) Free designation.

3. High-Temperature Board Attach Capable. Applies to components that meet higher package peak temperatures required by lead (Pb) Free surface mount technology (SMT) soldering operations.

4. Homogeneous Material. According to the November 2005 RoHS Regulations / Government Guidance Notes from the UK-Department of Trade & Industry,

  • "Homogeneous material" means a material that cannot be mechanically disjointed into different materials.
  • The term 'homogeneous' is understood as "of uniform composition throughout", so examples of "homogeneous materials" would be individual types of plastics, ceramics, glass, metals, alloys, paper, board, resins and coatings.
  • The term "mechanically disjointed" means that the materials can be, in principle, separated by mechanical actions such as unscrewing, cutting, crushing, grinding and abrasive processes.
