Freescale Semiconductor Malaysia is sponsoring the inaugural Freescale Smart Car Competition 2008 that will be held on 13 December 2008 in UiTM Engineering School. 26 teams involving some 52 engineering students from 10 local universities will be participating in the Smart Car Competition. The competition is organized in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) Computer Society - Malaysia Section (IEEE-CS Malaysia).
Freescale has initiated a similar effort in China since 2006, where 55 top-tier universities participated in China's first national University Model Car Design Contest. In Korea, Freescale collaborated with Korea Hangyang University to organize Korea S12 MCU Car Competition, which was launched in 2003. For Malaysia, this is the first time Freescale Malaysia is organizing the Smart Car competition.
