Smart Car Competition


Smart Car Competition 13 December 2008

Background

Freescale Semiconductor Malaysia is sponsoring the inaugural Freescale Smart Car Competition 2008 that will be held on 13 December 2008 in UiTM Engineering School. 26 teams involving some 52 engineering students from 10 local universities will be participating in the Smart Car Competition. The competition is organized in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) Computer Society - Malaysia Section (IEEE-CS Malaysia).

Freescale has initiated a similar effort in China since 2006, where 55 top-tier universities participated in China's first national University Model Car Design Contest. In Korea, Freescale collaborated with Korea Hangyang University to organize Korea S12 MCU Car Competition, which was launched in 2003. For Malaysia, this is the first time Freescale Malaysia is organizing the Smart Car competition.

Competition Objectives

  • To expose students to greater understanding of Microcontroller usage.
  • To developed next generation of Smart Car.
  • To expose students to the opportunity to cross learn from other University.
  • To produce an intelligent racing car that can recognize the track automatically to run on the specifically designed racing track.

Competition Features

  • Each team will build one Smart Car to compete in predefine track.

Winning Criteria

  • Speed – Judge by completion time.
  • Design – Judge by the outlook and design.
  • Technology – Judge by complexity of the electronic design.
