An industrial single board computer (SBC) is a ruggedized high-performance board that gives high computational performance optimized for low cost and power. It is often rack-mounted using proprietary form factors or industry-standard form factors such as COM Express, VME, AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA platforms. Diverse SBC applications include aircraft control and navigation, radar, telecommunications, medical imaging, database, general purpose computing, industrial control, manufacturing inspection and test and measurement. These applications use the 32-bit processor to calculate high-end image vector algorithms and run embedded applications on real-time operating systems. Processor performance can range from 400 to well beyond 20,000 MIPS. On-chip memory is often greater than 256 KB L2 cache. Industrial-grade equipment is ruggedly constructed for fanless operation in harsh industrial environments.
