EtherCAT is a rapidly growing industrial Ethernet protocol used for coordinated motion and safe control of automated systems. The EtherCAT master and EtherCAT slave modules daisy-chain via their EtherCAT processor to eliminate switches and routers. This reduces complexity and cost for factory automation, process control, industrial drives, motion control, and safety devices. Freescale and our partners first demonstrated EtherCAT Master on P2020 QorIQ and MPC8536 PowerQUICC in June, 2010.
