Q-Family Helps Designers See the Future

Exciting MCU family wins prestigious Product of the Year award

Motorola's QT/QY HC08 Microcontroller Family has won the prestigious Product of the Year award from Electronic Products magazine. The award was presented to Paul Grimme at a divisional communications meeting on January 31, 2003. The Product of the Year program is recognized as an indicator of future market product leaders.

Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector introduced the Q-Family on September 23, 2002. Based on Motorola's worldwide-accepted HC08 core, the Q-Family introduces capabilities previously unavailable in the low-cost end of the 8-bit microcontroller market. It delivers leading edge, "fast" in-circuit programmable Flash memory, which makes field upgrades and "future enabling" easy and cost-effective, giving designers and manufacturers increased flexibility. Other innovative features include a software-trimmable oscillator, 8-bit analog-to-digital converter, 16-bit timer and 128 bytes of RAM.

Price-sensitive, high-volume applications such as dishwashers and refrigerators can now go to market with exciting software-upgradeable control and user-interface features, thanks to the Q-Family.

Product of the Year selections are based on significant advances in technology or its application; design innovation; or substantial price-performance gains. The award program is now in its 27th year.
