Getting Started
Architecture
- A passive optical network is a point-to-multi-point architecture for delivering last-mile
connectivity without any active components in the distribution network. No powered equipment
means less cost, less network management, longer reach and no need for an upgrade.

Models
BSDL
- Boundary Scan Descriptive Language (BSDL) files provide a machine-readable means of describing
the boundary-scan test implementation accessible via the IEEE Std. 1149.1 (JTAG) interface. BSDL
files are used by tools to test device-to-device connectivity and enable other debug/production
test functionality.

IBIS
- The IBIS model is an industry standard model used to model the output driver characteristics
of a device. Quad Design has a commonly used tool suite that takes IBIS models for several
different devices and models the signal characteristics to help users determine what termination,
buffering, etc., they may need in their system.

Industry Standards
The International Telecommunication Union, telecommunication standardization sector (ITU-T), publishes recommendations (standards) for broadband optical access systems based on Passive Optical Networks. Other standards organizations also have working groups active in the development of standards for PON.
